Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and singer who performed for over 40 years. A torch singer renowned for her gorgeous, sultry contralto singing, London recorded over thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 until 1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her rendition of "Cry Me a River" which she first introduced in her debut album. London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award for 1974 due to her performance in Emergency as Nurse Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year acting career started in film in 1944, which included roles for female leads in several westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) along with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958), together with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and together with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-50s she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional career. The album she released was her last studio album in 1969, but continued to have success as the lead female character of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency! (1972-1979), in which she was portrayed by her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
